a physician’s account of the Yom Kippur war

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY THIS COMING SHABBAT:

A PHYSICIAN’S ACCOUNT OF THE YOM KIPPUR WAR.

Join us this Shabbat morning October 11 at Temple Emanu-El for a presentation by Dr. Itzhak Brook on his experiences as a medic during Israel’s 6-day war in 1967. This is a wonderfully unique fascinating opportunity. RSVPs to the office not necessary but appreciated. Bagels in the Sukkah will be served, and Itzhak’s presentation will follow Shabbat services, beginning at 10 am.

The presentation includes a description of the historical background of the Yom Kippur War and its effects on the Israeli society, as well as my own personal experiences and challenges as a battalion physician in the Sinai. I plan to speak on the physical and psychological traumas my soldiers had to cope with, the effect of religion on them, the cost of war in human life and suffering, and the daily struggle for survival in the difficult war which threatened Israel’s existence.
